Beautiful and Unique Beach Farmhouse Rural Retreat
Beautiful and Unique Beach Farmhouse Rural Retreat This breathtaking and spacious farmhouse is less than 5 minutes by car away from a beautiful sandy beach, between 2 traditional but vibrant towns, and close to many popular attractions such as Mont St Michel & the Bayeux Tapestry, it is perfectly located. This really is a unique and beautiful gem. We hope you love it!
This luxurious farmhouse comprises of large open-plan kitchen, dining room and lounge complete with a gorgeous ornate wood burner, these rooms in particular are brimming with the house's original character, plus extensive gardens with large BBQ and outdoor bar , pizza oven and entertainment area. Going through the house you'll find a utility room through to an exceptionally well proportioned and stunning bathroom. Up to the 1st floor you are met with a breathtaking view straight up to the roof timbers neatly framing the traditional French chandelier; the oversized landing comprises of a lounge area, a desk for working on and an extensive library. Walking down the corridor you'll find 2 beautiful bedrooms with original antique furnishings. Finally onto the imposing but gorgeous bathroom housing your very own roll-top bath. Up onto the top floor, this mezzanine level with a second lounge, light feel and third bedroom gives a perfect hideaway spot if you just need a little downtime. The red 'chesterfield' sofa and the sofa on the landing are both purpose build 'sofa-beds', should you need the extra sleeping space. There are also spare mattresses available. The entire house has been beautifully renovated to the highest standards whilst retaining its original character. Whilst the house could have held many more bedrooms, we have specifically chosen a well proportioned and stunning design, rather than just trying to get the most number of rooms in a given space. It is exceptionally well equipped and being our 'home from home', it has not been renovated to just be a holiday let, we love it here and want to share it with others!
There are 2 outdoor courtyards; the large South facing courtyard with seating, a large pizza oven/BBQ and a 'walled garden' type feel and a smaller rear courtyard that magically catches the morning sun through the Lilac leaves (the perfect coffee spot!).
There are also extensive gardens complete with a mixed fruit orchard, 'exotic glade', fruit and vegetable garden and a wild flower meadow all for your enjoyment.
Additionally, sitting within these gardens is a large traditional barn which houses extras, like bikes, garden furniture, and many other items to further enhance your stay.
The house contains a beautiful woodburner as well as full underfloor heating. We provide bicycles, table tennis, tennis, darts and many more games to further enhance your stay. We also offer full guided tours of the area and can offer many memorable experiences like paragliding, hot-air ballooning and horse riding!
The tiny village of Glatigny is just a couple of minutes to the most beautiful, long (and often deserted!) sandy beach.
It is nestled between the two towns of La Haye du Puit and Portbail, both of which have some superb restaurants and great weekly markets.
Barnville-Carteret is also close by and being a summer vacation spot for many Parisians, is a great location to visit in those summer months.
Both Portbail and Barnville/Carteret offer great equestrian stables for horse riding and the rides along the beach aren't to be missed!
Please do visit the village tennis courts, behind the Marie's office in the village square. These are free to residents and you'll find tennis racquets and balls in the barn.
From around June-early September, on most weekends, many towns and villages nearby hold festivals and fêtes with great outdoor music and food.
Most towns also have what is called a Brocante, which essentially is a furniture market, but these really are worth a visit as it is very rare such quantities of antiques are under a single roof for such low prices. By far the best is 'La Clé Des Temps' in Coutances.
There are many WWII sites of interest, one of the biggest being near Caen; the whole area unfortunately is dripping with this bloodied history. There is a book in the house showing damage to the nearby town of La Haye Du Puit, but this is not a unique story.
Mont St Michel is not too far away, and is a breathtaking place, highly recommend a visit.
The Bayeux Tapestry is close by and is an interesting day out.
There are also regular boat rides over to the beautiful Channel Islands of Jersey, (which you can see from Glatigny beach) Guernsey, Sark and Alderney and if you are in the area for a decent period of time, I would recommend a day trip over.
The town of "Villedieu les Poêles" is around 1 hour away (and not too far from Mont St Michel) and is an amazing place to visit to see artisanal metal work, mostly bell forging, which has been the towns main export since the Middle Ages.
Within the house, there are many leaflets and books with more recommendations on what to do in the area.
