Casa Al Portico - Holidays in a typical Ticino house

The 4-storey old Ticino house is located on the edge of the village centre of Novaggio. It was carefully renovated and remodelled in 1997 and 2015. It now combines the charm of a historic building with modern design and exudes a great deal of Ticino flair. The upper two floors offer space for 5 - 7 people (5 beds and 2 extra mattresses, 1 bathroom, 1 kitchen). There is a charming studio on the ground floor, which can be rented subject to availability. It sleeps 3 people and has an additional bathroom and a small kitchen.

The mezzanine floor houses a large, cosy eat-in kitchen with a fireplace, a long, old table and a sofa. In the adjoining lounge there is a bed and a seating area with a small TV. The bathroom has a shower, WC and washbasin. You can enjoy the fresh air and sunshine on a terrace that opens out onto the south-west-facing garden.

On the first floor there are two large bedrooms, each with a double bed. There is enough space for an extra bed in both rooms. Various original wall paintings give the house a special charm.

In the typical open loggia under the roof, sheltered from the sun and rain, you can enjoy the view of the surrounding hills and villages, bake pizza in the traditional wood-fired oven, play a game of table football or darts or simply relax in a lounge.

In the rustic studio on the ground floor (photos 13-16) with exposed stone walls, old woodwork and a modern fireplace, there is a high-quality sofa bed with two sleeping places and a separate bed. The simple kitchen and a large dining table are housed in an atmospheric vaulted cellar that is open to the living room. A modern bathroom with shower and a hallway with wardrobe complete the flat. A direct exit to a small south-facing courtyard and a garden on the north-east side of the house invite you to spend time outdoors in fine weather.

Location description: Novaggio is a lively village with a town centre function in the green hilly landscape of the Malcantone (approx. 850 inhabitants). There is a grocery shop with fresh meat and open cheese as well as a bakery, a wonderful gelateria in summer, 3 restaurants, a flea market shop, a bank (Raiffeisen), pharmacy, dentist and general practitioner, various hairdressers... By Ticino standards, it is quite well connected to public transport, as it is the intersection of 4 post bus lines.
